Alabama License Requirements

In order to be eligible to apply for a real estate salesperson license in Alabama, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
  • You must be at least 19 years of age
  • You must have a graduated high school or obtained a GED
  • You must not have any criminal convictions for a felony offense involving ‘moral turpitude’
  • You must not have had your real estate license revoked in any other state (within two years)
  • You must complete a 60-hour pre-licensure education course
  • You must pass the Alabama real estate salesperson exam.

Alabama Reciprocal Agreements

As of 2017, Alabama allows for real estate license reciprocity with all other U.S. states. If you hold a valid real estate license in another state, you may be able to obtain a reciprocal license in Alabama. By obtaining this license, you can forego certain classroom requirements. Under Rule 790‐X‐1‐.18, applicants must take a six-hour course in Alabama real estate law to apply for this type of license and then take and pass the Alabama-specific portion of the licensing examination.
